So even a tree can be a "he" or a "she". In this story there's a "girl" rowan-tree (ryabina) and a "guy" oak tree (dub)... A lone thin rowan-tree stands shaking in the wind and bending all the way down to the lath fence... And across the road, on the other bank of the wide river, just as lonely, there stands a tall oak tree. She wishes she could just come right across to the other side... Then she would snuggle up to him with her thin branches and whisper with his leaves all day long... But- alas! - a rowan-tree cannot cross over to the other side to her beloved oak...
