В 1980 году начал сольную карьеру.В этом же году совместно с Адельмо Форничьяри основывывает группу Taxi, которая становится победителем песенного фестиваля в Кастрокаро в 1981 году. В 1983 году Роберто Занетти вместе со своей группой Taxi выпускает сингл To Miami и Kapsi Cum, и сам же их издал, подписавшись псевдонимом Старго (Stargo).To Miami захватил первые позиции в итальянских чартах.Именно в этот творческий период к Роберто приходит первый опыт продюссера, когда он выпускает песни Taxi под наименованием Stargo. С 1983 года он вплотную работает над собственным проектом Savage, позаимствовав имя у героя любимых комиксов.Роберто записал свою песню Don't Cry Tonight, которая стала европейским хитом и впоследствии неоднократно перезаписывалась. К концу того же года Savage выпустил Only You, которая сейчас считается классикой стиля итало-диско.
