Herms Niel, 1939 Erika is the other Name for the "Flower of the Heath," known as "Heather"(Genus Erica), which is from whence the Ladies' Names come from. A more striaghtforward translation can be found here: en.wikipedia.org Or mine below. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- On the Heath bloom'd a little Blossomling, and it is called: Erika. Warm from a hundred thousand little Beelings, that swarm 'round Erika. For her Heart is full of Sweetness, Tender scents stream from her blossom'd Dress. On the Heath bloom'd a little Blossomling, and it is called: Erika. Back homeward, lives a little blonde Maiden, and she is called: Erika. This Maid, my true little Darling, and my Good-Luck, Erika. When the Heather, so lily-red blooms, Sing I, to greet her, this Song. On the Heath bloom'd a little Blossomling, and it is called: Erika. In my Chamber, blooms another Blossomling, and it's called: Erika. So in the Morningtide, as in Dusk's-Light, it stares to me, Erika. And then to me, it speaks aloud: "Thinkst Thou also of thy little Bride?" Back homeward, a Maiden weeps for you, and she is called Erika. Marching song of 78 rpm (shellac) record "Morning Song of the soldiers." I did record this song same mounths ago of a 78rpm record with the Micro, but I don´tt know anymore the song title just had. Who knows? The record, unfortunately I have misplaced (too many 78rpm records, as does the listing times confused). Теги:MarschmusikMarschDeutschlandGermanySoldatenliedSoldat
Marching song from 1939 by Herms Niel (1888-1954). Performed by the Band of the Air-Signal Battalion of the Commander-in-Chief of the Air Force (from Potsdam) under lieutenant Erich Kiesant; the uncredited singers are probably the "4 lustigen Jungens" (Rudi Schuricke's quartet). Recorded in Berlin, 1939. Description: love song of a German soldier, about his young and attractive bride, Erika. He describes her in a very poetic way - as a flower, with the same name, which is attracting all the bees (other men). But he is not worried and knows she is faithful to him; because there's another little Erika-flower, in his barracks, through which his girl speaks to him every day, saying that she cries and misses him too... Song originally has three strophes; 1st and 2nd (and the ending line of the 3rd) strophe recorded. "Erika" was published for the first time in January 1939 and it instantly became a huge hit. Although it was officially a "marching - and soldiers' song", it was generally performed by civilian artists at the time. Out of over 10 commercial recordings from the period, only one (!) was made by an army band - and that is the one we're listening to right now (there was a radio recording by another army band, but those, radio tracks, were not made for sale). Civilian dance bands performed "Erika" also as a march-fox and by the end of 1939 it was mostly played as a waltz. Song was popular outside Germany as well; one of the very first foreign arrangements was made in ...
