Today, Friday the 17th of Feb we have had more trucks come than ever with the intention to take more animals. Edwin explains the situation in english but before he did that he said it in thai to all the Thai Officials. The Department of National Parks, DNP, in Thailand raided Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand, WFFT, over the last two weeks from 13th February -- 24th February in their attempt to confiscate 103 rescued animals. This all came about because Edwin Wiek, the founder of WFFT, raised awareness of the slaughtering of endangered Asian elephants in Thailand's National Parks, questioning why nothing had been done about it by the DNP. The raids were horrifying, displaying a clear lack of training by the DNP staff. The confiscations took place because the DNP claimed that WFFT was keeping animals illegally, without the correct documentation. On the first day of the raids, WFFT were given just a few short hours to get all of the paperwork together, for over 450 animals. The paperwork which they did not get chance to see, that of 103 animals, was gathered that night, yet by that time, the DNP were on a mission to confiscate the animals and nothing was going to stand in their way.
