In a debate in Russian TV the Dr. Sergey Kurginyan, political scientist considered one of the most intelligent Russians, is interviewed about Stalin. At the beggining, he claims that his grandpa was killed by Stalin, however he claims that personal problem is different from from the history of a country. He compares, for instance, that French Revolution had Napoleon, but today Frenches sing the Marselleise. Robespierre leadered the so called "Terror" in French Revolution, but still there is the Robespierre Institute in Grenoble, and nobody calls Robespierre a "demonic character", as some people do with Stalin. Stalin is a difficult tragic figure like Robespierre, according to him. According to Kurginyan, people is sentimentalist, passionate and such sentimentalism often leads to idiocy, an such idiocy should be erased, since that they prevent people from reflecting about the period as a whole, from its contributions, prevent them from an analysis under a rational basis. He calls personal analysis something "primitive", claiming that people should try to understand the period as a whole, their own history, not because someone known hated Stalin. (aplauds here) He also condemns the formula "Stalin=Hitler", calling it a "philosophic idiocy", once the foundations of both regimes, as well as the ideas of both leaders completely different.
