America's approach to tackling the flow of illegal drugs from Afghanistan is misguided. This criticism from Russia's anti-drugs chief who believes a complete eradication of poppy fields is the only solution - a position not currently shared by the US However, this reluctance now has some asking if the deadly business is proving simply too lucrative to destroy. Relations between the US and Pakistan have hit a new low, after a top American military chief accused Pakistan's Intelligence service of supporting a group behind last week's attack on the American Embassy in Kabul. Islamabad has strongly denied the claims. One of the stumbling blocks in US- Pakistan relations is that American drone attacks on al-Qaeda operatives on Pakistani territory continually resulted in civilian deaths. However, the US military considers them so effective that it is building a number of new drone bases in Horn of Africa and the Arabian peninsula. But as RT's Gayane Chichakyan reports, this policy has caught America in a vicious circle. Russia Today's Gayane Chichakyan interviews ex-CIA officer Michael Scheuer. They touch on Syria, Iran, the 'Arab Spring', Libya, Israel etc. Although I may not agree with everything Mr.Scheuer says, it is very interesting nonetheless. Ron Paul 2012 Endorsement: Scheuer penned an editorial in late December 2011 endorsing US Presidential candidate Ron Paul. He said, "Dr. Paul's precise use of history and common sense exposes the exorbitantly costly effort to build democracies in the Islamic world for what it is; namely, Washington throwing money down the drain for a cause that is impossibly lost from the start and one that will involve us in wars where we have no interests." Michael F. Scheuer (born 1952) is a former CIA Intelligence officer, American blogger, historian, foreign policy critic, and political analyst. He is currently an adjunct professor at Georgetown University's Center for Peace and Security Studies and an Expert at Wikistrat. In his 22-year career, he served as the Chief of the Bin Laden Issue Station (aka "Alec Station"), from 1996 to 1999, the Osama bin Laden tracking unit at the Counterterrorist Center. He then worked again as Special Advisor to the Chief of the bin Laden unit from September 2001 to November 2004. NB This interview has already been posted by RT, but I wanted to post a copy as well because it deserves to be seen by as many people as possible.
